Gamegrene Tome of GM Knowledge

To quote aozora from zipdrive's "My Campaign Learning Experience. or: What is a new DM to do? Part 2":

"Brilliant idea. Add that to the Gamegrene Tome of GM Ideas ... if such a thing exists, heh. "

I wonder if we could create one, and a Gamegrene Tome of Player Ideas as well. Perhaps a wiki or something? There is loads of great information and advice that could be more easily accessed if it was organized and indexed. THAT could be an immensely useful thing.

Thoughts, everyone? aeon? Morbus?

quite a big task, too...

does anyone know any child labor sweatshops that organize wikis? :)

Wikis only work if there are at least a few dedicated people consistently working on them.

I'm all for a wiki of this sort. I'd recommend hashing out some structure here first before we set one up.

There are a lot of free wiki sites so it would be easy. Morbus also hosts a wiki (Ghyll) so it would seem to be easy enough to host a second one.

You'll note that Ghyll is currently read-only. Why? I got sick of reverting 20 spam comments a day even with blacklisting and word-filters and blah blah blah. I've no problem setting up another wiki, but:

* it'd be MediaWiki. I like MediaWiki.
* as Aeon says, there has to be enough love for it.
* this seems like such an obvious idea: why hasn't it been done before?

I don't like seeing splintered efforts - I'd be very surprised if there's not an RPG wiki out there already that is very similar to what you're proposing. And while it wouldn't be Mine (or Ours), I'd much rather see a combined effort placed into one massive wiki than a sheltered wiki garden on Gamegrene which would end up "competing" with the another. If it truly doesn't exist, again, I've no problem hosting it.

I concur. I'll do some poking around on the internet and see what I can dig up.

Lorthyne: you ever find anything?

I actually found a few different resources. RPGnet has a sizable wiki page going here http://wiki.rpg.net/index.php/Main_Page, although it looks like it hasn't been added to in a while. The page seems to be primarily a space for "various community RPG
projects", which consist of a cornicopia of homebrew systems as well as some game settings and a relatively small number of GM resources. The site is surprisingly short on GM styles and advice, and it appears to be sparsely populated at this point in time, but otherwise it seems to be a pretty good resource.

I also ran across a wiki that appeared to be exactly what we were considering here, and it doesn't seem to have any particular affiliations to major sites. unfortunately, I've having trouble finding it again. I'll dig through my history files when I get home and try to find it.

Oh, I found it.

I need to check the forums more often ... heh. Sorry.

I've posted a call for creators here. Please give it a look.
