Classes

Okay, I'm working on a few tabletop systems. One was mentioned in a previous topic of mine. This thread is asking for some input for another. This system runs for one hundred levels, gives a total of nine base abilities and ten "elective" abilities, and has forty classes to choose from. All I'm asking is if anyone can suggest any additional classes for the list. It's designed as a PVP system originally, not exactly for role-playing but rather fighting one another in a setting similar to something of Magic: the Gathering. It has rules for role-playing it out with adventuring and monsters and all, but it was primarily made for player-versus-player. Through that, I think I need as much variety as I can justify.

Here is my class list so far:

Warrior
Guard
Paladin
Elemental Knight
Death Knight
Ranger
Magician
Elementalist
Warlock
Counter-Mage
Healer
Thief
Assailant
Merchant
Commander
Knight
Gladiator
Cleric
Entertainer
Brawler
Loremaster
Alchemist
Trap Artist
Hunter
Augur
Enchanter
Dual-Mage
Duelist
Psionic
Acolyte
Tactician
Druid
Wild Mage
Troubadour
Stalker
Beast Tamer
Cavalier
Magic Knight
Soul Warrior
Grey Mage

I'm trying to avoid Ninja, Pirate, and Assassin for the sole reason of "I think everyone would take them to try and be cool." A Ninja or Assassin could play an Assailant or Stalker, while a Pirate could play a Duelist or maybe a Tactician/Commander if the character were more of a Pirate Captain. Anyway, can anyone suggest anything?

Thanks in advance,
-Rathje

Would be better to split these up into different groups, to see where you're lacking? Perhaps "ranged" (physical and magical) and "melee"? Are you looking for balance here, or just interesting classes? And if every class is supposed to be "interesting", how will you make them more interesting than each other? I'm also curious as to how certain classes (like "Trap Artist") would "work" - wouldn't the other player know that I'm laying traps and just blatantly avoid them?

Alright, I'll organize them soon. I had them in an alphabetical list, but I misplaced it and will have to re-do it. I'm solely looking for interesting classes currently, and if one group overwhelms the others, I'll add/cut classes to work things out. Classes are more/less interesting by player preference. I, personally, wouldn't play a Brawler as I dislike the style. I understand how some people could enjoy it, though.

The "Trap Artist" class functions by remotely springing traps, rather than having other characters fall into them. Through this reasoning, I feel it would be understandable to just give them a to-hit roll like everyone else.

You could always just combine the two (Pirate Captain & Ninja Assassin)

Of course...

You WOULD have to pay me royalties, since I'm the original...

ARRRRR-HEEYA!

As soon as I started reading I knew that was coming. He'd have to pay roaylties for the Mystic Assassin thing too though.
