What would you most like to see as a roleplaying game or supplement and why?
My wish list would have to include:
The New Battlestar Galactica. This is a great mix of violence, thriller, sci fi, but with a human (and sometimes not so human) heart. It just begs to be put into a roleplaying game.
Draegera, from the novels by Stephen Brust. Immortal giant elves living along side their weaker human counterparts, two different systems of magic, interfering Gods, reincarnation, assassin's, thieves, and humor. Read it and then tell me whether this would be cool to play in.
The World of Stephen King's Dark Tower series. Read it, you'll understand.
Alias: The Roleplaying Game. Weird plots, stealing stuff, mean bad guys, and page after page pics of Jennifer Garner:
The Deathlands, based on the novels by James Axler. A post WWIII America filled with mutants, Mad Max style bad guys, and hidden military bases that contain technology so advanced that it seems to be magic. Hard, gritty, and mean, these books are surprisingly realistic and very fun to read.
A roleplaying game based on George R. R. Martin's Song of Fire and Ice series. I know that there is a book out already with information on the first book in the series, but I've just finished the third book and I know that anything based solely on the first book would just be disappointing to have. Each book is better and more intricate than the last. This is a fascinating world and truly cries out to be roleplayed. Even if all the major characters die
Tad William's Memory, Sorrow, Thorn trilogy. I been recommending these books since before I found Gamegrene and the only fantasy novels that come close to being as good or better than this is the abovementioned series by Martin. Truly a work of art and something that I get ideas from still.
So: Thoughts?
Heh, in the Dark Tower, instead of being the DM or the GM you get to be the KA. I do long for it too.
Also, the three Bas-Lag books by China Mieville, Perdido Street Station, The Scar and Iron Council. Unfortunately, I think China's against it. But it would be cool. Steampunk in the grittiest universe ever. Sick biothaumaturgy for Remaking people. Scabmettlers who craft their armor out of their own coagulated blood. The Tain, which is basically an insane nuclear-magical wasteland to the hundreth power.
There is heroism and brute warfare on the ocean floor, unnoticed by land-dwellers. There are gods and catastrophes.
